Brown played in 13 games but only caught 14 of 16 targets for 163 yards and two touchdowns. The Texans operated with a revolving door at the tight end position all year, but Brown was clearly involved. Given the TE competition on the roster from Jordan Akins, Darren Fells, and Kahale Warring, I wouldn't be shocked to see Brown miss the cut. The team has too many needs to bring back a depth piece like Brown, in my opinion. Buddy Howell, Running Back (RFA) Another restricted free agent is RB Buddy Howell. Howell played in 14 games this year. He rushed 16 times for 64 yards (4 ypc) in limited work, but as a 24-year-old running back the team might need him to return. He may not warrant a huge contract and RB depth could be useful with both David and Duke Johnson experiencing injuries more often as they age. I think they bring him back. Brent Qvale, Right Tackle (UFA) RT Brent Qvale is the lone offensive lineman free agent on the Texans' roster. He only played in 19% of offensive snaps as a backup most of the year, but good offensive linemen are generally hard to find.

Deshaun Watson's lawyer says the NFL star will publicly address the allegations of sexual assault levied against him in the coming days, but portions of their defence strategy against multiple civil lawsuits are beginning to emerge. The Houston Texans' quarterback is "adamant" he didn't sexually assault any of the various women who have filed civil lawsuits against him in Harris County, Texas, TMZ reported Sunday (AEDT), citing multiple sources connected to the quarterback. The public comments come just hours after a lawyer representing at least 12 women filing civil assault lawsuits against Deshaun Watson painted the Houston Texans quarterback as a serial harasser whose behaviour escalated to forced oral sex. Tony Buzbee said during a news conference Friday that seven lawsuits have been filed and five more are coming — several of the 12 unidentified women were hired to massage Watson — and 10 other women have contacted his office with similar stories not yet verified. The Texans fell to 3-5 with the loss to Indianapolis and are two games behind Tennessee and Jacksonville, who are tied for first place in the AFC South. Savage started Houston's season opener but was benched for Watson after a terrible first half. He moved back into the starting role this week after Watson tore an anterior cruciate ligament Thursday. Savage looked much the same as he did in the opener on Sunday and failed to move the offence for the majority of the day. After Watson had helped the Texans score 30 or more points in a franchise-record five straight games, Savage led the offence on just one scoring drive. That came midway through the fourth quarter. The Texans, whose first touchdown on Sunday came on a fumble return, had a chance to win on the last play, but Savage was sacked and fumbled. Houston signed T. J. Yates and Matt McGloin on Friday to back up Savage, but his performance Sunday led to questions whether Kaepernick would be a better choice to run O'Brien's offence than any of those three.

Lindsay joins a backfield with David Johnson at the top of the depth chart and newcomer Mark Ingram also in the mix. That said, Lindsay is used to sharing RB reps with others after three seasons in Denver, especially last year when he took a backseat to Melvin Gordon.
Houston Texans second-round selection Max Scharping had his first NFL start at left guard on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers. Scharping was the third left guard in as many weeks but getting the rookie on the field is a good sign for an offense trying to get a group building together for the long haul. Scharping did not play at left guard all of the training camp or the preseason but received his first NFL start at that position against the Chargers. Scharping took the situation in stride. "I mean, that's just the mentality that we all have to have, " Scharping said of moving to left guard. "Whenever you get put in just take advantage of the opportunity and then with the guys next to me, you know, LT (Laremy Tunsil) has played a lot. Nick (Martin), obviously, he's played a lot of football here as well. " With Scharping playing on the left side, he has a resource in Tunsil. Scharping is leaning on Tunsil to help him get pointers on the field and start understanding working next to Tunsil to build that communication.

Six of the nine players are unrestricted free agents while three are restricted. Only one stands out as a clear option to return, but what about the rest? Will Fuller, Wide Receiver (UFA) The biggest name on the offensive side of the ball of the Texans' free agency list is clearly wide receiver Will Fuller. Fuller, 26, started in 11 games for the team before being suspended for a PED violation. In those 11 games, Fuller caught 53 of 75 targets (a 71% catch rate) for 879 yards and 8 touchdowns, which led the team. 2020 was also Fuller's best season of his career even though he missed 5 games. Teammate Brandin Cooks had a great year as well, but without Fuller, the Texans' offense will definitely struggle. It'd be hard to imagine the team letting him go, even with his suspension and inability to stay healthy. The Texans need to make re-signing Fuller a top priority, potentially even using the franchise tag if it comes to that. He's just that good. Pharaoh Brown, Tight End (RFA) The biggest restricted free agent for the Texans for 2021 is tight end Pharaoh Brown.
